2011 promise: fulfilled!

Yes, I fulfilled my last new year promise: I didn't shop any shoes this year and just bought really necessary and justified clothes (see the things that I bought here). Accessories were not enclosed in promise, but I also didn't shop them, because I think it wouldn't be fair.

The intention of promise was to spend less money with clothes and shoes and to pay and decorate my first apartment. Now, when I see that the entire year has passed and I fulfilled my promise, I am thinking about the things that I learned. The main things, I divide with you.

1. The force that a promise can have. At the beggining, it was bery difficult. It seems like you are missing everything, that you want and need everything. To each shop window that I looked at, a bell rang in my head saying: "You made a promise! This money can pay your apartment! You made a promise! It can pay a carpet! It can't buy because you promise"! Later, my mind was so trained that I even care anymore. And then, it began to give me a little pride to fulfil it. Now, in the end of this year, I'm SUPER proud to get it!
When we avoid buying by choice, we can see our real needs. I've never done crazy things for shopping (spending more than I could pay or buying abusive and outrageously expensive things), but I always liked to shop clothes and shoes. And I always knew that I shop many things because I like it and not because I needed. I used to shop things because they were pretty or they were my style. Because of the color or just enchanted me. And, when I realize, it was almost an addiction.
Lesson 1: New year promisses can be fulfilled.
Lesson 2: You don't shop clothes and shoes only because you need them, but because you want them.

2. Creativity has to be a daily exercise. I am a creative person. However, my profession does not allow much creativity. So, since Law School, I exercise my creativity mostly with clothes and decoration. This year was the highest level of creativity, because I tried to show differents outfits here. At winter, which was very strict, I admit that was pretty difficult. Clothes were getting old. It was as difficult as the time I gained weight. Luckly, I always preferred a little larger clothes. Sometimes I made mistakes with my outfits... some DIY goes wrong. But, I tried. And, other times, I were right too.
Lesson 3: Creativity helps you live with your wardrobe.
Lesson 4: The error and the wisdom born of creativity.

3. Style and fashion. Between April and July, I realized that wasn't so hard not to shop something trendy. It was boring, but not sooooo difficult. The hard thing was not to buy something that is your style, that you want for a long time, and it is finally on stores! Stores don't sell things you want all the time, but when fashion say so. Red pants were a fashion tendency that make me sad to leave behind.
It keep the mind on your style (and not on what is fashionable) also helps you live with your wardrobe. Another thing that help is to have basic or classic pieces.
Lesson 5: My style is formed by what I like, with the help of fashion, classic and basic stuff.

4. Black is black. I consider myself a colored person. Hardly I go out all black outfit. I love to give a spot of color in my outfits with colorful shoes! But I have to admit: my black flats and my black medium heels shoes were done. They were the first to die.
Lesson 6: It doesn't matter how colorfull you are, black shoes and all black pieces are the most important things of your wardrobe.

5. Buy less is cool. In Brasil, Jojo (www.umanosemzara.com.br) is the more famous blogger that stop shopping. There are some other girls with promess not shopping or similars things. It's almost a slow fashion moviment. Some girls have a specific goal (to buy an apartment or to reorganize their buils), others go for the challenge, others, for awareness. It's worth to stop shopping a little... a year, maybe.
Lesson 7: Shopping less is fashion.

Welcome, new promises! Welcome 2012!

Happy New Year!
